HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/ELECTIONS:
Tropicana Las Vegas has hired Charles (Chuck) Esposito as its casino manager. Esposito's career includes stints at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, Harrah's Entertainment, Hilton Corp. and Caesar's Palace.
OSI Restaurant Partners LLC has hired Elizabeth (Liz) Smith as its new ceo, effective November 16. Smith succeeds Bill Allen, who is retiring and will serve as board chairman for OSI. Smith was previously president of Avon Products Inc. At OSI ,she will oversee a portfolio that includes Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar and Roy's restaurants.
Prism Hotels & Resorts has named David Martin senior vice president of operations. Martin, a 26-year industry veteran, most recently headed the hotel and franchised operations for Wyndham Hotel and Resorts. He has also served as vice president of operations at Kimpton.
Darden Restaurants Inc. has elected Victoria Harker to its board of directors. Harker is executive vice president and chief financial officer of The AES Corp., a global power company with generation and distribution businesses.
Ruth's Hospitality Group Inc. announced that Robert Merritt has joined its board as its independent member. Merritt is board chairman at Cosi Inc., a restaurant company
OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS:
The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa is slated to open in January 2010. The 1,002-room property is the flag's largest resort property.
W Hotels Worldwide has opened the W Boston and The Residences at W Boston, the brand's 35th hotel globally. The 235-room property was created by Boston-based architect William Rawn, international design firm TRO Jung|Brannen and New York-based Bentel & Bentel
John Q. Hammons has opened his third hotel this year, the nine-story, 230-room/suite Marriott Bloomington–Normal Hotel & Conference Center in Normal, Ill.
Best Western has opened its fourth Atrea upper midscale prototype for business travelers, a 74-room property in Denton, Texas.
ZUMA, an award-winning London restaurant, has selected RCC Associates General Contractors to build its first U.S. location, at the EPIC Residences & Hotel in Miami. Serving as architect for the project is Charles H. Benson and Associates.

AWARDS
The Hyatt Regency Chicago has won the 2009 Workplace Excellence Award from the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and Right Management. The award recognizes organizations that improve their competitive advantage through people practices that create value and positive impact for their business and workforce. The Hyatt Regency Chicago, a 2000-room property at 151 E. Wacker Drive, was one of four winners presented with the award at the recent Chicagoland Workplace Excellence Awards Forum.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. announced that Denise Coll, president of its North America Division, has been inducted into the Massachusetts Lodging Association's Hall of Fame.
WETSTYLE's M Collection won the Bath Furniture Product of the Year Award at the 2009 Decorative Plumbing and Hardware Conference.
InterContinental Resorts French Polynesia announced that its InterContinental Moorea Resort & Spa has won Silver Green Globe Certification. The complex received that certification for its continuous efforts to remain an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable member of Green Globes' benchmarking and certification program.
