HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/EXECUTIVE CHANGES

Kerzner International Holdings Ltd., operator of the Atlantis and One&Only luxury resort brands, announced that Alan Leibman has been promoted to ceo and that company founder Sol Kerzner will remain as company chairman.

Luxury hospitality design firm ForrestPerkins has hired Pamela Parsons as its vice president of operations. Parsons’ career includes stints at Host Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International and RTKL.

China Lodging Group Ltd. announced that executive chairman Qi Ji will resume his former role as ceo. Ji will replace Tuo Zhang, who will continue to serve the company as a consultant and member of its board of directors.

Carlson has assigned Scott Meyer, vice president of franchise operations for Country Inns & Suites by Carlson, to serve in an additional role as interim leader midscale brands for Carlson Hotels Americas. The post was formerly held by Steve Mogck, who left the company to work for a Chicago-based non-profit called the Moody Bible Institute.

Covington Fabric & Design hired Robert Duban as executive vice president of sales. Duban, who is a 30-year veteran of the contract textile and home furnishings industries, joins the company from fabric and home furnishings company The Robert Allen Group.

Choice Hotels International appointed John Tague, ceo of Greatwide Logistics Services of Dallas, to its board of directors as an expert on distribution and marketing.

Wingstop restaurant has promoted David Vernon to senior vice president of development. Vernon will oversee the franchise development, construction and real estate departments.

Stacy Silver launched Silver Hospitality Group, a boutique hotel consultancy that will provide industry relations outreach, marketing solutions and special events for hospitality companies.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS

The Rezidor Hotel Group has rebranded the former Mövenpick Hotel Lübeck in Germany as the 197-key Park Inn by Radisson Lübeck. Hotel updates are planned for 2012 and 2013.

InterContinental Hotels Group opened the 72-key Holiday Inn Express & Suites Phoenix Tempe University. The former Comfort Inn recently underwent a $1.5 million conversion that includes a new exterior color scheme and redesign of its guest rooms.

Celebrity chef Michael Symon will open the 2,500-sq.-ft. Bar Symon restaurant at the Pittsburgh International Airport in spring 2012.

MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS/ACQUISITONS

Interstate Hotels & Resorts has entered into agreements to manage the 473-key Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Ill., and the 122-key Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Montrose, Colo.  

AWARDS

Laurence Geller, ceo of Strategic Hotels & Resorts Inc., has been named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. The designation was made in recognition of Geller's service to The Churchill Centre, along with his charitable and humanitarian work in the U.K. and elsewhere. A native of London, Geller is chairman of the board of trustees for the Churchill Centre, an organization celebrating the life, times, lessons and relevance of Sir Winston Churchill.

Russell Kett, managing director on HVS’s London office, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hospitality Professionals Association for Finance, Revenue Management and IT.
