Four hospitality executives and deals received ALIS Awards at the just-concluded American Lodging Investment Summit in San Diego. The winners are:
- Jackson Hsieh, managing director and global head of real estate, lodging & leisure group, UBS Investment Bank, recipient of the 2008 Jack A. Shaffer Financial Advisor of the Year.
- The 1,594-room Fontainebleau Miami Beach, by Fontainebleau Resorts LLC, winner of the 2008 Development of the Year.
- Purchase of the 726-room Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles by Next Century Associates LLC, the 2008 Single Asset Transaction of the Year. The deal was for $366.5 million, or just over $500,000 per room.
- Apollo Management and Texas Pacific Group's acquisition of Harrah's Entertainment for $28 billion, the 2008 Merger & Acquisition of the Year.
Winners were determined by vote of ALIS conference sponsors. Also honored during the event were J.W. Marriott Jr., chairman and ceo of Marriott International Inc., who received the 2009 International Society of Hospitality Consultants Pioneer Award, and Horst Schulze, president/ceo of the West Paces Hotel Group, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
