The opening of a new convention center in Niagara Falls, Ont., earlier this month is prompting the nearby Marriott Gateway on the Falls to undertake a $15-million upgrade. The 407-key hotel is across the street from the 288,000-sq.-ft. Scotiabank Convention Centre.

“The Scotiabank Convention Centre will bring a new kind of visitor to Niagara Falls,” says Anthony Annunziata, the hotel’s vice president of marketing. “Delegates to conferences, conventions and trade shows often need space for breakaway meetings and accommodations that offer them quick access to the convention floor. That’s what we offer.”

Planned upgrades for the 32-story hotel include remodeled guest suites; façade improvements; a new lobby area with more open space; a new restaurant/bar; updated conference and meeting facilities; and improvements to the fitness and pool areas. Work on the upgrades is underway, and are slated for completion in early 2012.
