MANAGEMENT CHANGES:

Marriott International Inc. announced the following executive promotions, effective May 1: William Shaw, to vice chairman; Arne Sorenson, to president and chief operating officer; and Carl Berquist, to executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Global Allies LLC, a designer and manufacturer of premium stacking and task chairs for the hospitality industry, has hired Cindy Gasser as its director of business development. A 35-year veteran of the hospitality and entertainment industries, Gasser was previously vice president, sales and marketing, at Gasser Chair.

Amerlux Lighting Solutions has promoted Bill Plageman to vice president of product marketing.

Robert Sly has rejoined Group Goetz Architects as associate principal and studio director of the firm's commercial design practice.

The U.S. Green Building Council has hired Scot Horst as senior vice president, LEED, a new position in the organization, effective April 1. Horst was previously a partner in 7group, a green building consultancy.

OPENINGS AND RENOVATIONS:

Hilton Hotels & Resorts announced that the former Fort Lauderdale Grande has reopened as the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina. The 598-room hotel underwent a $70 million renovation directed by Barry Design Associates.

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) has opened the 118-room Staybridge Suites Milwaukee Airport South in Wisconsin.

MHI Hospitality Corp. has opened the 222-room Crowne Plaza Tampa Westshore in Tampa, Fla., following an interior and exterior renovation of the 11-story property.

BUSINESS BRIEFS:

Floor manufacturer Centiva is taking part in the SmartWay Transport Partnership, a collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry designed to increase energy efficiency while reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.

Renaissance Lighting, a developer of solid-state downlight fixtures, has been named to the 2009 GoingGreen East 50 Top Private Company List by the AlwaysOn online editorial network. The annual list recognizes privately held, emerging companies that create new business opportunities in green technology.

TECHNOLOGY:

C-nario has entered a strategic partnership with Vizrt that adds 3-D, live and video capabilities to C-nario's digital signage platform.

The InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz., has deployed the Converged Network Digital Solution from SuiteLinq, a provider of broadband and on-demand solutions for hospitality and extended-stay environments.

AWARDS:

The Address, Downtown Burj Dubai, the flagship property of The Address Hotels + Resorts that's managed and owned by Emaar Hospitality Group, has won ‘New Hotel 2008' at the World Hotel Awards.

Jolie Quest Resorts announced that its Park Tahoe Inn won the 2008 Award of Excellence for Outstanding Design for a Commercial Remodel by the city of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
