High-altitude retreat to integrate eco-friendly technologies, materials
Moevenpick Hotels & Resorts is expanding its presence in India with plans to open a retreat in the Himalayan Mountains. The 124-room Moevenpick Dharamshala Resort & Spa will be located more than 7,800 feet above sea level in the Kangra Valley in northern India.
The resort, which is slated to open in 2013, will be constructed mainly out of locally available materials. The complex will be powered by energy-efficient wind, solar and hydro systems.
Owner Kamakhya Hospitality Services Pvt. Ltd. partnered with Moevenpick to extend sustainable practices beyond the resort's initial development. “We have found the perfect partner to manage the property in a long-term, sustainable fashion,” says chairman Vijay Sharman.
The resort's main draw will be the 26,000-sq.-ft. Ayurvedic spa, which will offer yoga therapies, detox sessions and treatments. In addition, the lobby will double as a living area to encourage guest interaction, and will feature several open fire places.
The resort is Moevenpick's second project in India. The first, the Moevenpick Hotel & Spa Bangalore, will open this spring.
