60-ft. solar canopy will power bar
The Moonrise Hotel, a lunar-themed St. Louis boutique, is turning to the sun for some of its power needs. Locally-based Micogrid Energy is installing a 60-ft. solar canopy above the 125-key hotel’s Rooftop Terrace bar. The translucent covering will generate 4 kilowatts of power, which will run the bar and power the lighted moon replica that rotates atop the building.
“From day one, we have been committed to operating the Moonrise Hotel in a sustainable, eco-friendly fashion and this is one more example of our green efforts,” says Joe Edwards, owner of the hotel.
The Moonrise Hotel, which opened in 2009, is the only hotel in the St. Louis area using solar power to offset its energy consumption, according to Microgrid Energy. The hotel’s other green design features include energy efficient lighting and recycling/composting programs.
