HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/EXECUTIVE CHANGES
Prism Hotels & Resorts promoted Mark Van Amerongen to senior vice president of operations and Allison Handy to vice president of marketing for the hotel management firm.
Interstate Hotels & Resorts president and chief operating officer Jim Abrahamson will transition to the role of ceo at year end. Current ceo and chairman Thomas Hewitt will remain as chairman and Ted Knighton will serve as chief operating officer.
OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS
Jumeirah at Etihad Towers opened on the Arabian Gulf in the Ras Al Akhdar area of Abu Dhabi. The property includes 382 guestrooms and suites, 199 fully-serviced residences, the Talise Spa, a conference center and 12 restaurants, bars and lounges.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide opened the five-star, 254-key Le Méridien Coimbatore in India.
The 415-key Fairmont Washington D.C. will refurbish 24,000 sq. ft. of its function space. The $2.6 million renovation will be completed by the end of January.
The 357-key Hotel 71 in Chicago has completed a $20 million renovation that includes the addition of 49 premier guest rooms, including 10 junior suites, and a signature restaurant.
MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS/ACQUISITIONS
Morgans Hotel Group Co. has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase a 90 percent controlling interest in The Light Group, a lifestyle food and beverage company currently operating several venues for MGM Resorts International. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 125-key Union Station Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., which is housed in a restored 19th-century railroad station, will join Marriott’s Autograph Collection in January.
Interstate Hotels & Resorts has entered into a long-term management agreement for the 136-room Four Points by Sheraton Kecskemét in Hungary. The hotel is being developed as part of a mixed-use redevelopment of an existing office block, and is set to open in 2013.
Summit Hotel Properties has entered into agreements to purchase the 150-key Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Atlanta for $28.7 million and the 96-key Residence Inn by Marriott in downtown Kansas City, Mo., for $9.9 million. The company also entered an agreement to sell the 52-key AmericInn Hotel & Suites in Missoula, Mont., for $2 million.
The Admiral Capital Real Estate Fund has acquired a preferred equity interest in the 190-key Hilton Garden Inn Houston Energy Corridor. The price was not disclosed.
Red Lion Hotels Corp. rebranded two former Best Western Inn & Suites properties in New Mexico as the 192-key Red Lion Hotel Farmington and the 126-key Red Lion Hotel Gallup.
