The Morton's The Steakhouse on San Francisco's Union Square has undergone a $3 million renovation that included more than doubling its size, to 15,000 square feet. The project was designed by Chicago-based Aumiller Youngquist PC and built by R.D. Olson Construction of Irvine, Calif.
The two-level restaurant now features Morton's updated architectural and design elements, which the Chicago-based chain of 80-plus steakhouses debuted in 2007 with the renovation of its locale in San Jose. In the new design, rich dark red oak wood and a bold green leaf pattern in the carpet replaces Morton's traditional blue.
The San Francisco restaurant houses the main dining on its entry level, along with The 1221 Bar, which features a semi-circle counter that juts out into the lounge to encourage conversation, and a glass-enclosed wine room. The restaurant's basement level now houses five private dining rooms, which may also be converted into two larger rooms.
