Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. announced that its The Luxury Collection brand is making its debut in Russia, with the addition of the Hotel National in Moscow. The 106-year-old property recently completed the first phase of an extensive renovation, involving its guest rooms and public spaces.

“Celebrated for its distinct Russian heritage, classic architecture and art nouveau design, Hotel National adds another jewel to The Luxury Collection's glittering ensemble,” said Paul James, global brand leader, The Luxury Collection and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts.

Built in 1903 by famed Russian architect Alexander Ivanov, Hotel National overlooks the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square. It has 206 guest rooms and 56 suites.

A second phase of the property's renovation is slated to start in 2010 and will include new spa and fitness facilities, as well as two Presidential suites. Future upgrades include the addition of a courtyard restaurant, along with a redesign of the hotel's Alexandrovsky bar and Moskovski restaurant with a new haute cuisine culinary concept.

Other notable hotels in Starwood's 70-member The Luxury Collection include Hotel Danieli, Venice; Grande Bretagne, Athens; Marques de Riscal, Elciego, Spain; The Laguna Resort, Nusa Dua, Bali; Patios de Cafayate, Argentina; SLS at Beverly Hills; and The Phoenician, Scottsdale.
