Toronto-based Delta Hotels and Resorts has unveiled plans for a fourth hotel in its home city: a 45-story, 566-key locale in the Southcore Financial Center (SFC) mixed-use development. The four-star Delta Toronto, designed by Page + Steele and IBI Architects, will offer oversized guest rooms and 24 extended-stay suites. It is slated to open in 2014.
“The Delta Toronto will give travelers what we know they want from a city hotel — quick access to business and entertainment districts, convenient connections with transportation hubs, and a living environment that caters to their every need,” said Hank Stackhouse, the company's president and ceo.
The Delta development represents a continuation of a hotel-building boom in Toronto, which has four high-profile properties opening this year. The planned SFC complex that will house the Delta hotel will cover a full block in the southern part of the city's downtown core, from York Street to Lower Simcoe Street. In addition to the Delta tower, it's slated to include two other high-rise office buildings. The project's developer, GWL Realty Advisors Inc., expects to break ground on the SFC late this year.
Delta Hotels and Resorts operates and franchises 45 properties across Canada, including three in Toronto.
