Cruise industry executives say the tumult in the global economy means new ship orders will be on hold for a while, USA Today reports. "Under current circumstances, we don't envision ordering any new vessels," Royal Caribbean chairman and ceo Richard Fain told the newspaper. Royal Caribbean has two ships on order, the 5,400-passenger Oasis of the Seas, the largest cruise ship ever built, which will arrive next year. A sister ship, Allure of the Seas, will debut in 2010. Princess Cruises will not have any ships on order after it debuts the 3,080-passenger Ruby Princess next week. Holland America has just one ship slated for delivery for 2010, while Carnival has two ships on order for 2009 and 2011. Norwegian Cruise Line also has two ships in its development pipeline, both for 2010, but those vessels are in jeopardy due to recent disputes between NCL and the shipyard.
