Interstate Hotels & Resorts is the latest U.S.-based management company vying for a share of the massive Indian hotel market. The third-party management giant has formed a 50-50 joint-venture partnership with JHM Hotels, India's largest independent hotel owner and developer, to operate and selectively invest in three- and four-star hotels that target business travelers. The partnership, JHM Interstate Hotels India, will serve as Interstate's platform for all hospitality-related activities in India and will be headquartered in New Delhi.
Interstate and JHM also agreed to a 50-50 $12.5 million investment to acquire an interest in Duet India Hotels Ltd., a U.K.-based real estate investment fund dedicated to hotel investment in India, and in the fund's asset management group, Duet Hotels Asset.
