Nusta Spa, which bills itself as “the nation's first certified eco-friendly day spa,” has reopened its doors after undergoing a major interior renovation. Nusta, which originally opened in 2004, was the first spa in the country and the only spa in the Washington, D.C., area to achieve gold-level LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Upgrades made during the recent renovation at the 5,000-square-foot facility include the use of Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood flooring, recycled bamboo furnishings and more energy efficient lighting.
“Our goal is to offer natural products and quality services that rival the highest-end hotel spas,” explains Elizabeth Snowdon, who co-owns the spa with Tonia Briscoe, Brad Drummer. “The key, however, is delivering these services with as little negative impact on the planet as possible.”
