Larger space is less formal than its predecessor

Oceana Restaurant has reopened in a new, 15,000-square-foot location in New York's Rockefeller Center. The 17-year-old seafood restaurant was previously in a smaller space on 54th Street.
The restaurant's former home ““was beginning to feel dated,” said Nick Livanos, whose family owns Oceana. “The idea of moving is something that's appealed to us for some time, and here we're able to reinvent [Oceana] in a very exciting way.”
The new locale, in the McGraw-Hill Building at 1221 Avenue of the Americas at 49th Street, retains the original restaurant's signature nautical atmosphere, but in a more modern, less formal way. While Oceana's 54th Street location resembled the cosseted dining room of a luxury yacht, the new location seats 180 diners and has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking 49th Street. In addition, it has outdoor seating and a bar.
The new restaurant's notable design features include custom fabric booths and banquettes with walnut details; a large, contemporary canopy over the revolving door entryway; sliding glass doors separating the private and main dining areas, a custom-built lobster tank in the entrance to the kitchen, and several tiered decorative chandeliers.
The project was built by Boston-based Trinity Building and Construction Management Corp.
