1,000-key new build seeks green certification
The Omni Dallas Hotel is seeking LEED Silver certification in the new construction category when it opens in early 2012. The design of the 1,000-key hotel focuses on recycled and regionally sourced materials, reduced construction waste and water conservation.
Builders are using low-VOC paint, adhesives and carpet systems, and certified wood comprises half of the wood-based materials. Each guest room includes an energy-management system and water-saving fixtures. At hotel restaurant Texas Spice, reclaimed timber and brick are incorporated into the design.
The hotel’s eco-friendly design also involves using roofing materials with solar reflective indexes to reduce heat island effects, a 25,000-gallon cistern to gather water for irrigation and a rain garden to capture storm water runoff.
“Earning the LEED Silver New Construction status will be a tremendous accomplishment,” says Nils Stolzlechner, general manager, Omni Dallas. “These efforts will continue upon the hotel’s opening to provide an eco-friendly environment.”
The Omni Dallas Hotel is connected to the Dallas Convention Center by a sky bridge, and features a reflective glass exterior and native textures and art inside. The project is being overseen by LEED accredited design-builders, engineers and consultants from the following companies: Matthews Southwest, Balfour/Russell/Pegasus, 5Gstudio_collaborative, BOKA Powell and Vivian-Nichols Associates.
