HIRINGS AND PROMOTIONS:

Brinker International Inc. (Dallas) has named Carin Stutz senior vice president and chief operating officer of global business development. Brinker operates casual dining restaurants under the Chili's Grill & Bar, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina and Maggiano's Little Italy brands.

Shawmut Design and Construction (Boston) has promoted Brian Stys to the newly created position of vp of marketing and business development.

Hodges Ward Elliott Inc. (Atlanta), a hotel brokerage and investment banking firm, has hired hotel veteran Bill Linehan to spearhead its new marketing and business development programs. Also, Chris Martin has joined the company's London office

Empire Resorts Inc. (Monticello, N.Y.) has appointed Joseph Bernstein ceo.

OPENINGS AND RENOVATIONS:

Marriott International Inc. (Bethesda, Md.) has opened the Courtyard by Marriott Washington, D.C./U.S. Capitol. The 218-room property is owned by a team of Hispanic and African-American business leaders, and is part of Marriott's ongoing Diversity Ownership Initiative. The hotel's majority owner is Robert Finvarb Cos. LLC and its co-owners are local investors are Dave Wilmot of Harmon, Wilmot, Brown & Bagwell LLP, Craig Welburn ,of Welburn Hospitality; Thomas Hopkins; and Dr. Barron Harvey.

A 120-room Hotel Indigo has opened at Toronto Pearson International Airport, and the company has announced plans for a 153-room property in Vancouver, B.C., that will open just before the 2010 Winter Olympics begin there.

PROPERTY SALES:

Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. (Hamilton, Bermuda), has sold the Lapa Palace hotel in Lisbon, Portual, to a private Portuguese investor for $41.8 million.

BUSINESS BRIEFS:

Laticrete Intl. Inc. (Bethany, Conn.) a manufacturer of systems for installing of tile and stone, has opened a manufacturing and research facility in Singapore.

Meyda Lighting (Yorkville, N.Y.) a manufacturer and designer of Tiffany lamps and stained glass lighting and accessories, has upgraded its website, www.meyda.com.

Victor Group (Saint-Georges, Que.), a textile manufacturer, has joined the Sustainable Furnishings Council as a Silver Corporate Exemplary Member.

Martin Professional (Aarhus, Denmark), a provider of lighting solutions for the entertainment, architectural and commercial sectors, has opened an online shop for purchasing its products at eshop.martin.com.
