HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/APPOINTMENTS

Sodexo Inc., a provider of integrated food and facilities management services, has appointed Olivier Poirot senior vice president and cfo. Poirot was previously ceo of Accor North America.

Hospitality design consultancy WATG has hired Chris Panfil as a vice president, as part of the firm’s expansion of its urban design services. Panfil was previously managing director of Hart Howerton’s London office.

Ark Restaurants Corp. announced that Robert Towers resigned as president and chief operating officer to pursue other business opportunities.

The Marcus Corp. said Brian Stark has been elected a director of the company, whose operations include an 18-property hotels and resorts unit. Stark is founding principal, chief executive officer and chief investment officer of Milwaukee-based Stark Investments.

HVS Parking Consulting has hired Mark Fischer in the newly created position of managing director of hospitality services.

Jeff Foland has been elected to LaSalle Hotel Properties’ board of trustees, effective Jan. 25. Foland is executive vice president of United Airlines and president of Mileage Plus Holdings LLC.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS

Hyatt Hotels Corp. has opened the Park Hyatt Ningbo Resort and Spa in Ningbo, the first member of that flag in China. In addition, Hyatt, design firm Perkins Eastman and Abu Dhabi National Hotels announced the opening of the Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas on Saadiyat Island, the first Hyatt-branded property in the UAE capital.

New York restaurateur Danny Meyer has teamed with executive chef/partner Floyd Cardoz to open the North End Grill. The 140-seat eatery, operated by Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG), is located in northern Battery Park City and features a design by Bentel & Bentel.

The Hotel Group (THG) has converted Holiday Inn Santa Fe in New Mexico to the Doubletree by Hilton Santa Fe. THG is renovating the four-story property’s 130 guestrooms, lobby, Patina’s Restaurant, Mezcal Lounge and 4,400 sq. ft. of meeting space.

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts announced plans for the 289-key Sheraton Reserva do Paiva Hotel and Convention Center, a new project in Pernambuco state in northeast Brazil. The complex, which is being developed by the Promovalor Group of Portugal and Brazil’s Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias, is slated to open in March 2014.

The Tides Riviera Maya resort in Mexico has undergone a major renovation and been rebranded as the Riviera Maya, part of the luxury Viceroy Hotels and Resorts portfolio.

ACQUISITIONS

Prudential Real Estate Investors, in a new joint venture with Lodging Capital Partners, acquired the 291-key Austin Four Seasons in downtown Austin, Texas. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

ASSOCIATIONS

The Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) and Architecture Canada|RAIC announced they are collaborating as co-presenters of IIDEX/NeoCon Canada, Canada’s national design and architecture exposition/conference. The groups said that collaboration will coincide with the launch of the Architecture Canada Expo at IIDEX 2012 and build on a sector-based diversification strategy launched by IIDEX/NeoCon Canada last year with Hospitality Canada.
