Puck’s Latest Pays Homage to Pink Floyd

(May 2009) posted on Tue May 26, 2009 EDT

Musical themes play a pivotal role in the design of celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck's latest eponymous bar and grill, in the L.A. Live entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles. The 8,000-square-foot restaurant, designed by Tony Chi in collaboration with William Paley, drew design inspiration from the restaurant's neighbors, the Nokia Theatre and the Grammy Museum, to integrate musical patterns in several key design elements.

Rhythm and lyrical movements were interwoven throughout the floors, light fixtures and wood grains. Player piano scrolls (pianola-inspired) anchor the west end of the main dining room and are inscribed with the baseline notes to the songs from Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon," one of Puck's favorite albums.
