Expansion includes Colorado, Indiana and Michigan

Quaker Steak & Lube, a motor-sports themed casual dining chain, has broken ground on its first Colorado location, and has also inked a five-unit development agreement to open locales in two other states this year. In all, the chain expects to open nine new restaurants this year, up from six last year.

“We are excited to be bringing The Lube concept as far west as Colorado,” said ceo John Longstreet. “The motorsports theme, award-winning food and supercharged events make it the most unique dining experience in the industry, therefore positioning it for growth.”

Multi-unit franchisee Bob Bolan will open a 7,400-sq.-ft. locale in Westminster, Colo., in October. Giltz and Associates, which currently operates a Quaker Steak & Lube unit in Virginia, will open a total of five restaurants, in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Ind., Grand Rapids, Mich., and Livonia, Mich. Also on the horizon are the chain's first locale in Kentucky, along with additional restaurants in Virginia, Wisconsin and Ohio.

Founded in 1974, Quaker Steak & Lube now has 38 restaurants in 13 states and Canada.
