HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS:
Carlson Hotels Worldwide has hired Michael Hutchins as vice president of development for its Radisson Hotels & Resorts unit for the Eastern United States and Canada. Hutchins' career includes stints at Hilton Hotel Corp., Wyndham Hotel Group and Cendant Corp.
Brinker International Inc. has named Wyman Roberts president of Chili's Grill & Bar and On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina chains, replacing Todd Diener, who left the company. Roberts formerly served in a dual role as president of the company's Maggiano's Little Italy brand and chief marketing officer for Brinker. Steve Provost has been named Roberts' successor as president of Maggiano's Little Italy.
Paul Payette has been hired as chief innovation and partnerships officer at OnSite Media, a digital concierge service. Payette was previously senior director of business development for Choice Hotels International.
Tropicana Entertainment LLC has named Allan Kronberg general manager of its two resort casinos in Laughlin, Nev., the Tropicana Express and the River Palms Resort and Casino. Kronberg was previously general manager and director of hospitality at the Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Minnesota.
Red Lion Hotels Corp. has added Raymond Brandstrom to its board. Brandstrom is executive vice President-finance and cfo of Emeritus Corp.
OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS:
Hilton Worldwide has opened its second hotel in New Zealand, the 113-room Hilton Lake Taupo.
Sheraton Hotels & Resorts has completed a $70 million renovation at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. The upgraded complex houses 1,231 guestrooms and suites and 133,000 square feet of meeting space.
Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and The Summit Group have opened the 136-room Hyatt Place Portland Airport/Cascade Station, the first member of that flag in Oregon.
Work has started on a 142-room Cambria Suites hotel adjacent to the new Consol Energy Center sports arena in downtown Pittsburgh. The hotel is slated to open in fall 2010, as is the Consol complex. Participants in the hotel project include Horizon Hospitality, Buffalo Lodging Associates and Choice Hotels International Inc.
BUSINESS BRIEFS:
The Cornell School of Hotel Administration and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., have entered a corporate alliance that will begin with Starwood's three-year senior partnership of the school's Leadership Development Program (LDP). Starwood will provide LDP with practical resources and input by participating in the LDP Seminar Series, conducting activities and training sessions for LDP participants at Starwood-owned properties, and hosting LDP students at the Starwood corporate office to engage in educational programs. Starwood will also provide financial support to the program. In return, the company will have special networking and recruiting opportunities with LDP participants.
Sunlight Saunas is the new name of Sunlight Saunas, a producer and distributor of infrared saunas.
