In a down economy, some restaurants are looking to pick up new business by remodeling. San Francisco Chronicle restaurant critic Michael Bauer has detailed how several trendy eateries in and around the City by the Bay -- including A16, Zuni Café, Bistro Don Giovanni, Mustards Grill and Coi -- have recently adopted that strategy.
"Prognosticators predict an unusually large number of restaurants shutting their doors in the months to come, but some of the Bay Area's top restaurants remain optimistic," Bauer wrote. "Otherwise how do you explain the unprecedented number of places that seem to be undergoing face lifts? Despite the tight economy these restaurants are looking long range and reinvesting in their businesses."
