HIRINGS AND PROMOTIONS:

Lodgian Inc. (Atlanta), an independent hotel owner and operator, has promoted Daniel Ellis to president and ceo. He replaces Peter Cyrus, who held president/ceo titles on an interim basis.

Quiznos (Denver), a quick-service restaurant chain, has promoted Greg MacDonald to president.

Davidson Hotel Co. (Nashville, Tenn.), an independent hotel management companies, has promoted Steven Margol to chief investment officer.

Jonathan Nehmer + Associates (Rockville, Md.), a hospitality architecture and project management firm, announced that vp Scott Rosenberg has been elected a member of the London-based Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors as a chartered building surveyor. 

BRAND NEWS:

The Rezidor Hotel Group (Stockholm, Sweden) announced plans to open a 270-room Park Inn Sandton in South Africa in 2010, its seventh property in that country.

Concord Hospitality Enterprises, a hotel developer/owner/operator, has opened three ne hotels -- the 104-room Fairfield Inn & Suites and the 104-room Residence Inn by Marriott, both in The Colony, a suburb of Dallas, and the 132-room Hilton Garden Inn in Arlington, Texas. Concord also said it plans to open four more properties later this year in Texas, in San Antonio, Houston and Webster.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened the Crowne Plaza Boston-Newton, Mass., after extensive renovations and a conversion from a Sheraton hotel. In addition, IHG has opened the new-build, 113-room Holiday Inn Express and Suites Nashville-Opryland in Tennessee.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has signed an agreement with a subsidiary of Societé des Hotels de Noumea to manage a new-build Sheraton resort in New Caledonia that's slated to open in 2013. In addition, Starwood said it has extended its management contracts for two existing Le Meridien resorts in New Caledonia.

The Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick, N.J., has installed a SunPower Corp. solar power system. The 32,000-square-foot, 421-kilowatt solar-cell system is located over the top floor of the hotel's garage.

The Ocean Villas hotel (Grand Baie, Maritius) has undergone a renovation and added a beach wing with 14 rooms and two infinity pools.

The 225-room Westin hotel in Annapolis, Md., has completed a $2.1 million renovation that involved converting employee offices into 2,000 square feet of meeting space. The property is managed by the Davidson Hotel Co.

Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts (Philadelphia) has announced plans to enter the Dominican Republic and increase its Mexican presence with the relaunch of two properties. Zoëtry Agua Punta Cana will open fall 2009 and Zoëtry Casa del Mar Los Cabos is slated to open December 2009.

An 80-room Country Inn & Suites by Carlson has opened in Gillette, Wyo.

BUSINESS BRIEFS:

The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort has teamed with a local educational institute, the Salaam School, to provide a hospitality-training course for students. The three-and-a-half month program is offered on a complimentary basis to 25 students per year from throughout the Maldives.

AWARDS:

HEI Hotels & Resorts (Norwalk, Conn.), a private owner/operator of hotel real estate, will be presented with the 2009 Corporate Energy Management of the Year Award at The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE)'s Awards Celebration Banquet, held in conjunction with the World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC), in November.

HOK (St. Louis), an architectural firm, announced that cfo Bob Pratzel earned the "CFO of the Year" award from the St. Louis Business Journal in the large private companies category.
