Darden Restaurants has promoted John Caron to the newly created role of chief marketing officer. Caron was previously executive vice president of marketing for the company's Olive Garden unit. In addition, Darden announced that general counsel Paula Shives will retire this fall.
Vail Resorts has appointed Hilary Schneider, executive vice president of Yahoo! Americas, to its board of directors.
Montage Hotels & Resorts has named Christopher Hamaway director of sales and marketing for Montage Deer Valley, a new mountain resort and private residences set to open in December in Park City, Utah.
Perkins & Marie Callender's Inc. has named Richard Arras president and chief operating officer of Perkins Restaurants & Bakeries.

Hotel Indigo, InterContinental Hotels Group's upscale boutique brand, has opened the 97-room Hotel Indigo Nashville Downtown, its second property in Nashville, Tenn. The new hotel is owned by Union Street Plaza Operations LLC and managed by Wesley Hotels & Resorts LLC under a license agreement with IHG.
Hilton Worldwide has signed an agreement with Safir El Zamalek Hotel Co. to manage the Hilton Zamalek Residence Cairo in Egypt. The 164-key conversion project is slated to open in July.
Duffy's Sports Grill will open two new locations in coming weeks, in Broward County, Fla. Duffy's of Ft. Lauderdale will debut on April 23, and Duffy's of Coconut Creek will open on May 21.

Carlson, a global hospitality and travel company with operations in more than 150 countries, announced that president and ceo Hubert Joly has signed the United Nations Global Compact. That initiative encourages businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies supporting 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption.

Philips Lumec's RoadStar luminaire was one of five LED products in the Street/Roadway lighting category to be named a “Recognized Winner” at the second annual Next Generation Luminaires Design Competition. The competition, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and the International Association of Lighting Designers, recognizes excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for general illumination in commercial applications.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. ranked 19th on the 2010 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list for its demonstrated use of measurable diversity best practices and results.
