Side-by-side Playa del Carmen locales to open by year-end

Sol Melia Hotels & Resorts plans to open two new Paradisus resort brands in Mexico in late 2011. The 512-key Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Esmeralda and the 394-suite Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Perla will sit next to each other in the Playa del Carmen enclave on Mexico's eastern Caribbean shore.

The two resorts will share a common area referred to as El Zocalo, a term in Mexican culture which signifies a city's social center. The zone will feature several food and beverage options, a YHI Spa, an activities center, a theater, a ballroom and 25,000 sq. ft. of meeting/convention space.

Alvaro Tejeda Schroder, senior vice president for Sol Melia's premium hotels portfolio, said the two new resorts will serve as “the latest example of how the Paradisus brand has further raised the bar in regards to the service we provide our loyal guests and the experience they have come to expect from our world-class resorts.”
