Retreat features 61 treatment rooms
Mission Hills Group and SB Architects have completed the 21-acre Mission Hills Volcanic Mineral Springs and Spa on a Hainan Island, a tropical locale off China’s southern coast. The spa complex is a major component of the 518-key Mission Hills Haikou resort.
“We are proud to introduce this project to a global audience,” says Scott Lee, president of San Francisco-based SB Architects. “We believe we have created a destination that sets the standard by which design, service and the spa experience are measured on Hainan Island and throughout China.”
The 61-treatment suite spa was designed by SB Architects in collaboration with landscape architecture firm EDSA. Inspired by the Hakka earthen fortress villages of southern China, the exterior features semi-circular bamboo and lava stone. Inside, the design fuses western and oriental design elements while honoring the Chinese philosophies of balance and harmony. Other amenities will include treatment venues inspired by each of five continents and 29 private spa villas.
