Chinese hotel features cube design by SOM
The St. Regis Tianjin, which is shaped like a hollowed cube, is slated to open next month. The 18-story building’s distinctive steel-and-glass superstructure, created by architecture firm Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM), represents Tianjin’s status as “the gateway to northern China,” St. Regis says.
The hotel’s interiors, designed by KCA International, feature art deco and art nouveau touches that reference the early 20th century, when the flagship St. Regis in New York was in its early heyday and Tianjin was a center of shipping and finance.
