HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS:

Rex Warren, formerly senior vice president and cfo of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide's North America Division, has joined the faculty of The Hospitality College at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I.

Coastal Development LLC, a developer of resort destinations, luxury hotels and gaming facilities, has hired Kenneth Shea as president of its Coastal Capital Management affiliate. Shea was previously with Icahn Capital.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS:

Accor North America has opened renovated Motel 6 locales in Anaheim, Calif., and Jackson, Wyo. Both updated motels incorporate elements of the flag's new “Phoenix” design, which features boutique-style guest rooms.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened the 141-room Holiday Inn Santo Domingo, its first property in that Dominican Republic city. In addition, IHG has opened a 152-room Holiday Inn Express in Guadalajara. Both properties bear Holiday Inns' updated brand design.

Marriott International announced it is participating in Team Earth, a worldwide sustainability movement that unites businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals to address five critical environmental issues: climate change, water, health, waste and food.

AWARDS/CERTIFICATIONS:

The Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles has received the city's first Green Seal Silver Certification. The 1,354-room hotel earned the certification as a result of implementing a variety of energy-saving and waste reduction initiatives that management estimates will save the property $225,000 each year.

The Hyatt Regency Atlanta has won a “Friends of Glass” award from the Glass Packaging Institute. The institute says the citation recognizes the hotel's efforts to make significant and innovative efforts to promote or participate in glass container recycling for bottle-to-bottle use.
