Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has opened Tambo del Inka, a Luxury Collection resort in Peru's Urubamba valley. The 128-key destination, operated under a franchise agreement with Libertador Hotels, Resorts & Spas, and is the second of three properties Starwood currently plans for the South American country.
“The Luxury Collection brand has important penetration in South America and allows us to keep the identity of breathtaking places and landscapes and cherish them through unique hotels,” said Jorge Melero, Libertador's ceo. “Our strategic plan for the next five years extends beyond Peru's borders, and we look forward to future collaborations with Starwood."
In addition to its guest accommodations, the new Tapas resort is home to a full-service spa, two heated swimming pools and a private train station to facilitate trips to the historic city of Machu Picchu. The resort's architectural concept is by Miami-based Arquitectonica.
Starwood's plans for the country also include the Palacio del Inka in Cusco, a Luxury Collection property slated to open next year. And earlier this year, the company opened the Paracas hotel on Peru's southern Pacific coast.
