350-key Abu Dhabi locale to debut in 2013

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc. said it will open the W Abu Dhabi in 2013, the second member of its W Hotels brand in the Middle East. Starwood made the announcement about the new Abu Dhabi locale at the Arabian Hospitality Investment Conference (AHIC) in Dubai and said the news reflects its aggressive expansion plans for the region.

“We currently have a footprint of 50 hotels across the Middle East and a pipeline of 20 more due to open in the next five years,” said Roeland Vos, President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa & Middle East (EAME). “In addition, the Middle East will soon be the first region outside of North America to offer all nine of Starwood's brands, which illustrates just how integral this market is to our growth strategy.”

The Abu Dhabi W is being developed in collaboration with Belbadi, a U.A.E. multidisciplinary corporation. The 350-room hotel will be located on the waterfront of Al Bateen Wharf, and will be part of a mixed-use development that will also include high-end retail stores, restaurants and residences. The flag's first Middle East representative is the W Doha, which opened in mid-2009.
