HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/EXECUTIVE CHANGES:

Milliken hired interior and product designer Cresta Bledsoe as global creative director for its floor covering division. Her experience includes stints with interior design and architecture firm Thompson, Ventulett, Stainbeck, & Associates, carpet manufacturer Constantine and Manner, an interior and design strategies company.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS:

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has opened a 176-key Aloft hotel in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Carlson opened the 153-key Park Inn by Radisson Sharon, Pa.  

Playboy Enterprises Inc. and London Clubs International opened the Playboy Club London gaming and entertainment venue, which was designed by London-based architects Jestico + Whiles.

El Chico Tex-Mex restaurant opened a location in the city of Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The 1,360-key San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina is completing the final stages of a $200 million renovation. 

A Seasons 52 restaurant will open in the Country Club Plaza Shopping Center in Kansas City, Mo., in spring 2012.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) opened the 104-key Holiday Inn Express & Suites San Antonio NW Near SeaWorld.

MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS/ACQUISITIONS:

LaSalle Hotel Properties is acquiring the 934-key Park Central Hotel in New York for $405.5 million.

RFR Holding has agreed to purchase the 597-key Paramount Hotel from Walton Street Capital and Highgate Holdings for appromixately $275 million. Plans for the property were not disclosed.

Summit Hotel Properties closed on its purchase of the 122-key Hilton Garden Inn in Atlanta for $14 million. The company also signed purchase contracts for the 90-key Courtyard by Marriott in El Paso, Texas, for $12.78 million, and a 131-key independent hotel in Park City, Utah, for $18.73 million.

Cushman & Wakefield Sonnenblick Goldman arranged the sale of the 304-key Hilton Long Island/Huntington in New York by an institutional ownership group to Prudential Real Estate Investors and The Dow Hotel Co. The sale price was not disclosed. 

An affiliate of Michael Baker Corp. has acquired JMA Architecture Studios, a 40-person architectural and interior design firm based in Las Vegas. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Prism Hotels & Resorts will manage the 289-key Sheraton Charleston Airport Hotel in South Carolina.  

California-based boutique hotel operator Broughton Hotels will manage and undertake the sales and marketing for the 49-key Acqua Hotel in Mill Valley, Calif.

The 150-key Lodge & Spa at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga., has joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection. 

BUSINESS BRIEFS:

MindClick SGM, a sustainability research consulting firm, has teamed up with several hotel brands, suppliers, architecture firms and purchasing companies to form the Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Consortium (HSPC). The consortium’s founding members include Marriott International, Audit Logistics, Benjamin West, Delta Faucet Co., Innvision, InterfaceFLOR, PE International Inc., RTKL, SERA Architects and Valley Forge Fabrics.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has moved its senior leadership team to Shanghai, China, for a month to underscore its commitment to that market.

AWARDS:

The Golden Hotel, a member of Choice Hotel’s Ascend Collection, has received the 2011 City of Golden Sustainability Award from the City of Golden, Colo., and its community sustainability advisory board.
