Sweet, a San Francisco startup company, has chartered Norwegian Cruise Line's 1,972-passenger Norwegian Spirit for its first lesbian cruise voyage, scheduled for late 2009. The seven-night trip, dubbed the "Sweet Caribbean Cruise," will start in New Orleans on Nov. 8, 2009. "Volun-tourism" will be a big part of the Sweet experience. Norwegian says Sweet is working with local agencies to address needs like education, wildlife and natural resource preservation. Norwegian says Sweet also is working with the country's largest lesbian party promoter, Club Skirts, to host tea dances and parties on board.
