HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/APPOINTMENTS

Azure Properties, a European hotel investment group, announced that Frank Fiskers will join the company as a partner on Sept. 1. Fiskers is currently president and ceo Scandic Hotels.

MGM Mirage announced that William "Bill" Bible has joined its board. Bible is president of the Nevada Resort Association, a post he planned to resign before assuming his duties for MGM Mirage.

Fred Haber has joined LebaTex Inc. as operations manager. Haber will report to LebTex ceo Stacy Garcia, who will focus on growing her eponymous design brand worldwide.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS

Renowned fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg will design several rooms and suites at the Claridge's hotel in London. Von Furstenberg’s work at the hotel, which is owned and operated by Maybourne Hotel Group, is her first interior design commission. Her suites are slated to be unveiled in June.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has opened the 340-key Westin Austin at The Domain, its first representative of that flag in Austin, Texas. The property is owned by White Lodging and Simon Property Group,

Amble Resorts has hired West Paces Hotel Group to manage The Resort at Isla Palenque that’s under development off the coast of Panama.

Choice Hotels International Inc. has opened the 119-key Cambria Suites hotel in Fort Lauderdale/Dania Beach, Fla. The property is owned by Fort Lauderdale-based DP Hotels.

Hendrick Construction has completed Butter NC, an 8,300-square-foot, two-level night club at the NC Music Factory in Charlotte, N.C.

The Maidstone hotel in East Hampton, N.Y., will reopen for the 2010 season in early April with 17 redesigned guest rooms.

The Imanta Punta de Mita resort has opened in Mexico. Located on a 250 acre private reserve on the beaches of the Riviera Nayarit, the intimate cliff-side complex was designed by San Antonio-based architectural firm Overland Partners.

R. D. Olson Construction has been hired to transform a 1920s-built structure into the Avalon Grill, a 3,500-square-foot restaurant on the Front Street boardwalk in Santa Catalina, Calif. The restaurant was designed by Backen Gillam Architects and is owned by the Santa Catalina Co.

Interstate Hotels & Resorts said its stockholders have approved the company’s acquisition by the Hotel Acquisition Co. LLC, a 50/50 joint venture between subsidiaries of Thayer Hotel Investors and Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels (Group) Co. Ltd.
