Century Casinos Inc. has named Margaret Stapleton to executive vice president of finance, Michael Snider vice president, reporting, and Timothy Wright vice president, accounting and corporate controller.
OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS:
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has announced plans to open W Taipei hotel in late 2010, marking the flag's debut in Taiwan. Owned by Uni-President Development Corp. and Times Square International Hotel Corp, the 405-key property is located in Xinyi, Taipei's central business district. In addition, Starwood has opened the 321-room Sheraton Brooklyn New York. The 25-story hotel is owned by The Lam Group.
Carlson Hotels announced plans for its first Radisson Blu hotel in Asia Pacific. Located in the Philippines, the 400-key Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu is scheduled to open in September.
Hilton Worldwide has signed a franchise agreement with Brayford Hotels for a new 115-room Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Lincoln, U.K., that's slated to open in 2011.
Davidson Hotel Co. has taken over management of the 403-room Radisson Hotel Bloomington by Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn.
AWARDS
Durkan has announced the following winners in its D*scover carpet design competition: Karen Bradley, marketing coordinator at Boston-based Group One Partners Inc., took the grand prize in the professional category for her vibrant, floral-inspired patterns, while Emily Riebkes of the University of Northern Iowa took top honors in the student category for her flooring creations based on the reflections and ripples of water.
The Forum restaurant, which recently opened in Minneapolis' City Center, has been honored with a Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Award. Ringo Restaurants Inc. worked with Shea Inc. on redesigning and resurrecting the space's art deco interior, and Rich Bros. Construction did the build-out of the space, which has housed several concepts over the last 80 years.
Invista has presented the Antron Carpet Fiber Designed to Perform Award grand prize to Butler Rogers Baskett for its design of Major League Baseball's headquarters in New York.
Hastings Tile & Bath announced that the Muse Collection from its Catalano line has won the Good Design award from the Chicago Athenaeum
BUSINESS NOTES
Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration announced that Marriott International will be the title sponsor of the second annual Cornell Icon of the Industry Awards Dinner. This year's event, on June 8 in New York, will honor the 2010 Icon of the Industry, class of 1956 alumnus Chuck Feeney, co-founder of Duty Free Shoppers and founding chairman of The Atlantic Philanthropies. The event will also honor the Solomon Kerzner, founder, ceo and chairman of the board of Kerzner International, with the Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship's 2010 Hospitality Innovator Award.
Artistic Tile Founder has opened an architectural/design studio in San Francisco.
