W Hotels Worldwide has opened its first hotel in the U.S. capital, the W Washington D.C. Owned by Nakheel Hotels, the 317-room property is in the historic former Hotel Washington, which opened in 1917. The company says the latest W, at 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, mixes the building's beaux arts architecture with the edgy yet elegant designs of Los Angeles-based designer Dianna Wong.
The W Washington D.C. is also home to a J&G Steakhouse, from three-star Michelin chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and a Bliss Spa. It is the brand's 25th hotel in North America and 32nd globally.
