Wilson names Point of Excellence winners; Marc Smith to design hotel; Sands appoints exec in Asia… and more.

Hospitality industry news from 2009’s first quarter.


AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS:

Art Dallas Inc. and Andrea Pickens of Donghia Inc. won Wilson Associates' 12th annual Point of Excellence Awards, which recognize design industry vendors and service providers who provide exemplary service and perform beyond expectations. Proceeds from the luncheon honoring the winners go to The Wilson Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports education and health care programs for disadvantaged children.

BUSINESS BRIEFS:

Los Angeles designer Marc Smith has signed on as lead designer for the $30 million renovation of Hotel Shangri-La in Santa Monica, Calif.

MANAGEMENT CHANGES:

Las Vegas Sands Corp. has hired Leonard DeAngelo as its senior vice president of Asia operations.

Jose Angel Olmo has been named managing partner of Puccini Group's new office in Madrid, which will oversee the San Francisco-based hotel restaurant design and operations firm developments in Europe, the Mid-East and North Africa. 

Accor North America has promoted Robert Moore to executive vice president - technical services and new construction.

HOK has expanded its Denver office into a full-service architectural design and planning practice with the addition of vice president and practice principal Seth Rosenman, former owner of Root Rosenman Architects.

Douglas Vicari has joined Paramount Hotel Group as a principal, responsible for the firm's capital-raising efforts, as well as advising on its strategies and acquisitions.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has hired Zinan Liu as managing director of its China operations.
