Saudi Arabian skyscraper to include Four Seasons hotel

Saudi Arabian Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal has announced plans to start work on world’s tallest skyscraper. Prince Alwaleed, chairman of the Kingdom Holding Co., said work on the 3,281-ft.-tall building in Jeddah is expected to start soon. However, a specific timetable for opening the new tower—whose design was created by a team of firms headed by Chicago-based Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture—was not disclosed.

In a news release, Kingdom Holding Co. said the project, dubbed the Kingdom Tower, “will be a mixed-use building featuring a Four Seasons hotel, Four Seasons serviced apartments, first-class office space and luxury condominiums.” The company put the tower’s construction price tag at $1.2 billion.

Kingdom Tower will serve as the centerpiece and the first construction phase of Kingdom City, an urban development in northern Jeddah that will overlook the Red Sea. When completed, the Kingdom Tower would be about 500 feet taller than the world’s current tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
